La volée à Londres

This morning I got a taxi to the Airport Express which was a hair raising ride without a seatbelt which I doubt has ever been used.
The plane is pretty full again with Premium Economy chocker.  I don’t think I got quite the right seat as there is a window missing.  Never mind.

The people next door to me are large people and so I feel a bit squeezed in, whereas in the last flight it was fine.  The seats are just not large enough to cope with all our sizes.  Despite that they are very nice and remarkably they live in Greytown.  Oh well time to sign off for breakfast.
Breakfast has been served.  Very nice it was; started with fruit and yoghurt, then cereal, and finally I had scrambled eggs with bacon and tomatoes.  For once the cooked breakfast was almost as good as what one gets in a café.

So far the view out the window has been non-existent due to a persistent cloud cover.  Hopefully it will clear eventually so that I can see some of the countryside.  At least I have some room and am able to see the world go by.  When I did this flight 18 months ago I had a view all the way to Europe. After about four hours of flying we got into the high but arid area.

Last time I flew that way it was autumn and everything was dry and it was impossible to see anything that looked like water.  This time there are lakes where I remembered thinking that there must be water.  This time there is water which must be in shallow lakes because it looks brown but it is marked by white where there ice.  I suspect this is a high plateau, and I marked as white on the Airshow map.  We are over China and getting to the western edges of it.  Such a large country!  This area although very high has little or no snow on the mountains except where they are really high.  So barren with virtually no green to indicate grass! At times in the distance there are very high mountains suggesting the presence of the Himalayas.  One woman said to me that it is really boring but each time I have found it fascinating.  During the early part of the flight there was a message instructing people to pull down their blinds. So now we have a cabin without any light for the few people who think they should avoid the world by sleeping.  Not me so I have disobeyed orders.  I think there were others who were as grumpy as me given the comments and visits by a number of people.

About halfway through the flight we had a snack.  It was at about the same time the captain suggested that we look outside at the mountains marking the border between Krygystan and China.  They were covered in snow that was on the melt and they looked magnificent.

For much of the flight I read or wrote for the blog which is quite fun and a different way of doing things.  The flight took a different route to the one that happened last time, going over Poland, Germany and Holland. In fact I think I saw the Rhine from 38,000 feet.  Over central part of Russia there was still snow on the ground. Compared to the last two flights on this route there was a lot of cloud.
The only real negative was the darkened cabin.  I don't understand why people get window seats then promptly put down the blind and go to sleep.  At night fine; but during the day?

After getting Heathrow I took a bus to my Hotel and booked in.  A comfortable room with a softer bed than the previous night.

I went for a trip into the city and it was nice to get out and walk around.  However, I was very tired by the time I took the train back to the hotel and kept nodding off.
